UU Visalia Green Sanctuary Committee Charter
Adopted by Fellowship Board 1-15-06
Purpose:
The mission of the Green Sanctuary Committee is to help build a connection between spiritual practice and environmental consciousness in our Fellowship.
The specific Responsibilities and Tasks are designed to provide both the Fellowship as a whole, and its members, visitors, and the wider community, a way to integrate the UU Seventh Principle into our lives, both practically and spiritually.
Committee Structure:
Standing committee.
The Chair is appointed by the Fellowship Board and recruits committee
members as needed. The committee will network with all aspects of congregational
life, including worship and celebration, religious education, social justice,
building and grounds, communications, social activities, fundraising and
money management, membership growth, etc., with a view to integrating
sustainable living in our entire congregational life.
Responsibilities and Tasks:
1. It is this Fellowship’s intention to seek accreditation as a Green Sanctuary. The Green Sanctuary Committee will guide this effort, by first conducting an environmental audit and creating an action plan consisting of activities in the areas of worship and celebration, religious education, environmental justice, and sustainable living. These activities will invite participation by all members of the Fellowship.
2. The committee will strive on an ongoing basis to seek reliable information, inspiration, and opportunities for meaningful ways to integrate eco-spirituality, sustainable living, and environmental justice in our congregation.
